Nordic Paper Firms Eye Newsprint Joint Venture - Newspaper

STOCKHOLM (Dow Jones)--Nordic paper firms Norske Skog (NSG.OS), Stora Enso (STERV.HE) and Holmen (HOLM-B.SK) are planning to consolidate all or part of their newsprint production into a new joint venture, to remove excess capacity and lift prices in a segment that is suffering heavy losses, according to Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat.

European Publication Paper: July Shipments Up 5.2%

According to Cepiprint, the Association of European Publication Paper Producers, total European shipments of Newsprint edged up 2.7% (24,000 tonnes) in July compared to the same period last year. The rise was the result of a 2.0% increase in domestic shipments partly to Germany, plus a 5.9% rise in exports of the grade to countries including Brazil. European demand for Newsprint remained stable at 0.2% last month. Over the year shipments increased 4.8% compare to last year.
